Regulatory Committee Recruitment 2025 – Public Members

The College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) is seeking members of the public to fill positions on the following regulatory committees:

  • Competence Committee
  • Registration Review Committee

What Are the Expectations?

The Regulatory Committee members are expected to:

  • Fulfill term of appointment for three (3) years, commencing Oct. 1, 2025, and expiring Sept. 30, 2028.
  •  Be available for meetings - the frequency of meetings and time commitment for each regulatory committee varies and the commitment will be discussed with individuals during the application process.
  • Access online materials and conference calls, expecting members are comfortable using a computer (specifically MS Office and Teams) and have a stable internet connection. 
  • Ensure their personal interests do not interfere with their duties as a committee member. The CRNA’s GP 2 - Conflict of Interest Protocol outlines the CRNA's requirements and disclosure process.

About the College and the Regulatory Committees

The College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) is a health profession regulatory college. It has been delegated the authority under the Health Professions Act (HPA) to regulate Alberta’s registered nurses, nurse practitioners, certified graduate nurses, graduate nurses and graduate nurse practitioners.

The HPA responsibilities of regulatory colleges are to protect the public and hold registrants accountable for the care they provide. As such, the CRNA’s regulatory responsibilities include:

  • Approving education programs for entry into the profession
  • Setting registration and registration renewal requirements
  • Setting, maintaining and enforcing practice, conduct and ethical standards for the care registrants provide
  • Setting continuing competence requirements for registrants to maintain competency in their practice over time​​
  • Receiving, investigating and addressing complaints
  • Holding registrants accountable for their practice and behaviour
  • Maintaining a public register ​​

You will need to:

  • Complete an expression of interest application AND
  • Submit a current resumé.

All expression of interest applications must be submitted online through the CRNA website, linked below. Following submission of their expression of interest application, applicants will be directed to submit a current resumé.   

The expression of interest application will ask you to:

·        Provide your contact information

·        Introduce yourself

·        Self-evaluate against a list of competencies and attributes* that includes ranking yourself on a scale of 1 to 5 for each competency and providing details to support your self-ranking

·        Submit your current resumé

*The desired competencies and attributes are what the regulatory committee should possess as a group. Do not be discouraged from applying if you have a few competencies and attributes - they may be exactly what the regulatory committee is looking for. Everyone will possess a select few and contribute to the collective body.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN, please ensure you:

  • Set aside at least 45 minutes to complete the expression of interest application.
  • Have all required information available for reference when you begin completing your expression of interest application.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Materials Should I Review?

Can I Apply if I Do Not Live in Edmonton?

Eligible applicants must be Alberta residents and are not required to live in Edmonton.

Am I Obligated to Inform My Employer That I Am Applying?

Being a member of a CRNA Regulatory Committee will require a time commitment during business hours on weekdays. If this means you may be required to take time away from work, use your judgment to determine how to advise your employer.

What Happens After I Apply?

After all expressions of interest and resumés have been reviewed and assessed against the Council and Committees Selection Policy, applicants who are a match will be contacted for an interview.

When Will I Hear if I Am Shortlisted for Interview?

Applicants shortlisted for an interview can expect to be contacted in early March 2025.

If I Am Shortlisted for Interview, When Will Interviews Be Held?

Interviews will take place between March 31 to Apr. 11, 2025.

If I Am Shortlisted for Interview, Is the Interview In-Person or Virtual?

All interviews will be facilitated virtually.

Will I Need to Provide References?

If you are being considered for recommendation for appointment, you will be required to provide references. These references will be contacted before your recommendation can be considered final.

If I Am Appointed to a CRNA Regulatory Committee, Is There an Orientation Before I Begin?

Individuals appointed to CRNA Regulatory Committees will receive an onboarding / information session and an orientation session specific to the Regulatory Committee to which they have been appointed.

What Is the Time Commitment? Is this a Paid Position or Voluntary Work?

The frequency of meetings and time commitment for each regulatory committee varies. This commitment will be discussed with individuals during the application process.

Individuals appointed to the regulatory committees are considered volunteers. They are, however, remunerated on a per diem rate.

The regulatory committees meet on an as needed basis, and members are expected to prepare for and participate in meetings. Remuneration is on a per diem rate of $205 for less than four (4) hours and $375 for equal to or over four (4) hours spent.

Where Are Meetings Held?

Meetings are currently held virtually via MS Teams. If meetings are held in person, they will take place at the CRNA’s office at: 11120 178 St NW, Edmonton, AB.

Is Travel Required?

Travel may be required for in-person meetings at the CRNA offices. Regulatory committee members outside of the Edmonton area will be reimbursed for travel, meal and accommodation expenses when required to attend an in-person meeting.
